Job Search, Promotion, and Career Clarity: The Mid-Career GPS Podcast
7: You've Got the Dream Job. Now What?
You want a new job or promotion, and you’re putting in a lot of work to make that happen. You need to manage your mind as you navigate toward whatever is next for your career.
If you are a Jeopardy fan! Like me, you are watching closely to see who will ultimately take over hosting duties after Alex Trebek’s passing. In my opinion, Ken Jennings is doing a good job. It would be unfair to judge his performance at the same level as Alex Trebek’s 37 years of experience hosting Jeopardy! and against his entire broadcasting career. Plus, I share my experiences playing a trivia game against Ken.
You could only hope for the same grace and patience as you move into whatever role is next. Feedback is important. You must perform your job duties effectively with the knowledge, skills, and competence to do the job well. And you need time. But you’ve put in plenty of time to get where you want to go. Now, it’s time for you to learn and do your job.
One question I often ask my clients is, “How would you SHOW UP for work if you were acting in this role?” Focus on your mindset and demonstrate you have the skills and abilities to act in whatever new role you choose.
